Hi ALL:

I am new here so if i mis-step please forgive me. Dunno if i should be starting a new thread somewhere or this is right...

I need some advice about a poll i am making for as large a group of educators as i can reach. I am doing research into how textbooks are being used (or not used) by HS & higher ed instructors around the nation and world. I am asking how much they depend on these texts, are they being used? are students using them in and out of class? are they just reinforcement? do they use on-line ancillaries? would they use an e-reader? and so on...

i need advice on a free polling tool that can get many users for a single poll, and i also wonder what 10 questions you would include?

let me know, thnks

On Plurk there have been many threads on why we use a PLN or how we use different sites such as Plurk or Twitter. I created a VT as a common place to share these thoughts. Please add you ideas to the VT. I would welcome comments and suggestions.

Cerese, that tutorial looked very good to me. I have never used Google Bookmarks (Delicious for me and trying to learn more about Diigo). I do like Voicethread for tutorials actually, with screen shots and then commenting. I do think the doodling tool takes a little getting used to. By the way, I noticed Plurk on there quite a bit! Haven't been back there for a bit, I do like Twitter.

This was my first attempt at using Voicethread. I used it to create a brief tutorial on using Google Bookmarks. It may not be the best tool for a tutorial, but it was fun making it. It was hard to talk and doodle at the same time.

Here is a link to a Voicethread project created by a Middle School art/tech teacher and four of her students. The whole idea of the VT was to create a video journal of their experiences while learning art history through the creation of murals.

Just saw this one on Second Life by Kevin Jarrett and Sylvia Martinez. 92 slides long!!!
Second Life VT
I haven't been back into Second Life much, I did try out Google's Lively, but it wasn't very smooth. I did like SL better....at least for now. My problem is that not many area teachers would be willing to use a MUVE, at least that I know about

My wife teaches 5th / 6th grade, SPED. students (primarily autistic). For this assignment, she gave a few directions to the student's para-educator. In no time, the para and the student had this VT created. This simply demonstrates how easy VT is to work with.

The student's voice and enthusiasm demonstrates how effective it can be.
